NCC 1701-C made one appearance in The Next Generation. But it's my favourite "E"

| rearranged my spraybooth. Bottom has aluminium mesh so the airflow is down (instead of back) which gives more room and better airflow. |
Did I mention that I hate masking. I cut masks for this on a vinyl cutter - which is harder than it sounds due to the compound curves of the hull. |
Masks made by building a 3D model of the hull, projecting the lines, then unwrappinging and flattening the hull sections. |

| more masking :( Paint is tamiya spray decanted and airbrused. Base colour is Insignia White and the blues are Intermediate Blue mixed with Insignia White. Darkest blue is about 50/50. |
Phaser array and escape pod masking |
That seemed to work fairly well. Decanting the paint is a PITA but it dries really fast so it's much quicker to mask and paint multiple layers. |

A bit of post-paint surgery on the bottom |
there are a bunch of light blue stripes on the nacelles - most of them are on flat parts but parallel stripes on compound curves require some extra thought. |

more masking madness - this will get a spray of insignia white - leaving the masked blue areas behind... |

| still some paint to do on the secondary hull and pylons... |
An bit of an experiment. The studio model seems to have a gold effect over the blue areas when they're unlit. This is a decal printed on an alps printer with gold stripes. Stripes are too thick so there's not enough blue showing through this test |

| Secondary hull ls covered in decals - derived from the DLM decal set but colour matched to my dark blue. Thrusters and blue stripes around the primary hull are from the DLM set. Other markings are from the JT Graphics decal set |
Escape Pod decals added. |
crap - paint failure. Paint in the windows got dissolved by the clear coat and sucked under the decal film (by capilliary action) which made them uneven and ugly :( |

| solution - decals. There's a blue ring around them which matches the hull colour - thus covering up any boo-boo's. |
New windows. If I ever build another one of these - I'll fill in all the windows and panel lines on the secondary hull. Need to do the ones on the neck next... |
I should call this done before I mess anything else up... |
